ASSM - AUSTRIAN SOCIETY FOR SEXUAL MEDICINE (AUSTRIA)

The Austrian Society for Sexual Medicine (ASSM; Österreichische Gesellschaft für Sexualmedizin) has been founded in 2004 by Prof. Siegfried Meryn, MD; President of the International Society for Men's Health & Gender (ISMH; www.ismh.org).
The Association was established to develop educational activities regarding sexual health in order to improve individuals' and couples' quality of life as an important issue of public health.
ASSM members are health professionals and scientists working in the field of human sexuality and come from the fields of urology, general practice, andrology, psychiatry, gynaecology and sexology. Thus, the body adopts a multidisciplinary approach to sexual medicine.
The first activity of the ASSM was the participation in the European Sexual Awareness Event in February 2004.
In June 2005 the first German speaking congress of the ASSM and the DGSMT (German Society for Sexual Medicine; Deutsche Gesellschaft für Sexualmedizin und Sexualtherapie; www.dgsmt.de) has been organised in Munich, Germany.
The second cross-national congress will take place in Vienna, Austria in December 2006, just before the 9th ESSM Congress, also held in Vienna from December 3 - 7, 2006.
