SFMS - SOCIETE FRANCOPHONE DE MEDECINE SEXUELLE (FRANCE)

Societe Francophone de Medecine Sexuelle (SFMS) was founded in Paris on June 17th, 2004. It is a multi-professional Society, gathering both medical doctors, and other types of professionals involved in the field of Sexuality. Its main aims are :
- Developing the concept of Sexual Medicine
- Promoting a global (holistic) and multidisciplinary approach of sexual problems
- Offering the practitioners of Sexual Medicine a French-speaking space within most international meetings, making easier their integration in the international scientific community, mostly English-speaking
- Disseminating scientific information among French-speaking practitioners of Sexual Medicine.
- Making SFMS the French-speaking arm of ESSM, AGSSM and ISSM.
SFMS is affiliated to both the ESSM and the Africa Gulf Society for Sexual Medicine (AGSSM), and has presently 192 members from 17 countries, including 5 countries in Europe (Belgium, France, Israel, Italy, Switzerland), 9 in Africa, and Brazil, Canada and Vietnam.
SFMS publishes a News Bulletin in French ("Medecine Sexuelle") twice a year (first issue available on-line on the SFMS website). It has already organized several meetings or symposia in French in France and in several other European and African countries, as well as in Canada. These included invited symposia during the 1st North American meeting of the Canadian Society for the Study of the Ageing Male (Vancouver, Canada, February 2005), the 5th biennial congress of the African Society of Sexual and Impotence Research, now AGSSM (Mombassa, Kenya, March 2005), and the XVII World Congress of Sexology (Montreal, Canada, July 2005). Other meetings or symposia will be soon held in Copenhagen, Paris, Marrakech, and Cairo (on September 2006) during the next ISSM biennial meeting.
