SIAMS - SOCIETA' ITALIANA DI ANDROLOGIA E MEDICINA DELLA SESSUALITA' (ITALY)
The Italian Society of Andrology and Sexual Medicine (SIAMS) was constituted in Roma on the 22nd of April 1992. SIAMS is a multi-professional Society, gathering both medical doctors, and other types of professionals involved in the field of andrology and sexual medicine. It encourages the highest standards in clinical practice, education and research, trying to prevent and treat organic and functional dysfunction of male genital apparatus, and to improve the individual and couple's sexual health. This has certainly been evidenced in the annual scientific meetings, where recent research and clinical developments in the field of andrology and sexual medicine have been presented.
SIAMS is a growing Society, accounting now more than 240 active members, where the active participation of young scientific researchers is encouraged and supported.
The aim of SIAMS is to promote information, as well as basic and clinical research in the fields of andrology and sexual medicine, with particular attention to physiopathologic, clinical, endocrine, neuroendocrine and psychosexual aspects over life of the individual and of the couple, both in terms of reproduction and sexuality.
The Official Journal of the Italian Society of Andrology is the Journal of Endocrinological Investigation.
The Society is structured in 17 regional sections, in order to allow better relationships with local institutions and a stronger territorial participation of the Society itself.
On days 24, 25 and 26 November 2008 was held in Rome the 8th National Congress of SIAMS, followed by the congress of the Academy of Andrology (EAA, 26-28 November). The joint events have offered a Roman week of "full immersion" in andrology.
