Editorial from JSM Editor-In-Chief
Dear ESSM members,
I am happy to invite you to read The Journal of Sexual Medicine, the official journal of ESSM, on a regular basis.
From our very first issue published July 2004 containing summaries from the 2nd International Consultation on Sexual Medicine, this new journal has been widely read. This is evident from the number of citations listed by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) during the first six months of 2005. This puts us on target for a strong first Impact Factor in 2008. This is excellent news for ESSM members considering publication in the JSM. In a few weeks we should hear from the National Library of Medicine that The Journal of Sexual Medicine is being listed on medline//pubmed. This will be retroactive to the first issue. In the meantime the journal is listed on several other indexes.
The editorial team of the JSM attempts to provide authors first decisions within 30 days. Accepted manuscripts have an opportunity to be published as soon as proofs have been corrected–either in the print issue right away or first electronically through Online Early. We hope the experience will be a positive one for all authors. The journal has received 200 manuscript submissions already this year, with a 32% acceptance rate.
In addition The Journal of Sexual Medicine has been financially successful as of the first year. A portion of the profits have been given back to each of the regional societies including ESSM to promote research in sexual medicine.
As Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Sexual Medicine, I welcome your comments and your manuscripts. This is your journal. This exciting progress is because of the enthusiasm and support of many ESSM members, writing papers and reviewing manuscripts. I invite you to read your journal, write well, and cite it often. I look forward to reading your manuscript submissions and calling upon you to review others. Enjoy the next issue!
